• The trick to making exotic tropicals survive a winter freeze depends much on the following factors:
  1. Select a species that matches an area's zone and clima (or make the clima fit the species).
  2. Plant and enhance local microclimates.
  3. Harden the plant for the winter or build some freeze-protection device.
  4. Optimize the microclimate for the night of the freeze.
  5. Take care of post-freeze trauma.
